Welcome to

The Lay Subsidies represent a tax on moveable goods, and the lists can be used to calculate the population. They show returns of taxes raised at irregular intervals on entire populations of villages and towns by the reigning monarch when in special need of revenue. Only the very poor were exempted from this tax.
